JUST DANCE!

MUSIC COMMUNITY + RADIO SHOW

ABOUT

At a young age, I distinctively remember wanting to be on the radio. At VCU, I have been able to live out this dream through Just Dance. And no, this isn’t about the video game.

Just Dance! is more than just the name of my radio show, it’s an online music community that I’ve spent the last three years building. Using Discord, I have been able to grow an active community of dance pop lovers. Over the years, Just Dance! has hosted multiple events, partnerships, promotional activities, and has expanded into other forms of media.

MUSIC REVIEWS

SINGLE REVIEW: MY CRYSTAL NAILS – INNA

Romanian dance queen INNA has released the lead single from her ninth studio album, Just Dance. In her single, "My Crystal Nails", INNA proves she is the ‘queen of dance’ in this blaring Eurodance pop track with an infectious saxophone post-chorus drop. Listen as she effortlessly juggles sampling of classical music in a unique and captivating way.

PODCAST EPISODE

One avenue I’ve explored is creating a podcast episode that takes a deep dive into who the Cataracs were. It features an interview with an electronic music producer, who analyzes some of the production techniques that The Cataracs used in their music.

It was exciting scripting, recording, and editing the audio for this project. I gained experience in using Adobe Audition to edit the audio clips.

PARTNERSHIP GIVEAWAY

One of promotional events I hosted was a partnership with the largest Britney Spears community on Discord, (BritCord). The event encouraged users to join both communities in order to be eligible to vote in a countdown of the greatest songs by Britney Spears. We also hosted a giveaway for those who tuned into the show.

Both communities were encouraged to tune into the Just Dance! radio show not only for the countdown reveal, but listeners would also be eligible to win prizes in a giveaway. The promotion was a huge success, generating a large spike in listeners and growth in both communities.

HOT 20 CHART

The Hot 20 Chart was similar to the Billboard Hot 100 but entirely based in the Just Dance! community. Each week, the top song would be revealed live on air with the full Hot 20 graphic being revealed after the show in the server and on Twitter.

Each week, listeners and community members would be able to vote for their favorite songs from the show and their favorite dance-pop songs. Using Excel and my own math formula, I combined this data with listeners’ last.fm listening data to determine the most popular songs in the community each week.
